OPEN LETTER TO OUR COMMUNITY:
On behalf of S.H.A.P.E. Community Center's staff, board of directors and myself, Deloyd Parker, I pray that this correspondence reaches you and your family in the best of spirit and physical health. We sincerely thank all of you for all that you have done over the years in helping to sustain our efforts, thereby allowing us to be a productive force in our community.
Over the years, we have been uncompromising when it comes to our principles, justice, human rights, our values, our children, our families and the development of our community.
June 1, 2001 marks 32 years of S.H.A.P.E's continuous efforts to make a positive difference in our community. It has been a challenge, as well a blessing, to persevere over the years. It has truly been a collective effort. We firmly believe that we have done our part as stated in our mission, "to return our community to its traditional greatness." However, there is still much work to be done to actualize our mission.
It is very seldom that you will hear, see or read of S.H.A.P.E. Community Center having a fundraising activity. We are so busy doing the work that is required of a community center, it leaves us very little time to raise the much needed operational funds. Reality confronts us and we must call on YOU for your support in helping us to further sustain our efforts.
As we pause a moment, (just a moment) in our daily work, we would like to make an appeal to you. If you believe that S.H.A.P.E. Community Center has touched your life or made a positive impact on your family, be it directly or indirectly, over the past 32 years, we are asking you to make an investment (donation) of $32 toward our continued efforts, (one dollar for each year of S.H.A.P.E.'s service to our community). This investment (donation) may be in the form of a one-time contribution or a monthly pledge.
Other options may include an investment donation of $320 or $3,200, different amounts but the same scenario listed above. Please make check or money order payable to S.H.A.P.E. 2001 and mail to P.O. Box 300326, Houston, TX 77230-0326.
Our goal is to raise $320,000 by our 32nd anniversary date, June 1, 2001, at which time we will have a S.H.A.P.E. Reunion with music, slides and videos of our history along with a Karamu (feast) to celebrate OUR VICTORY!!!!! WE WILL BE VICTORIOUS!
